“Sweden should be a pioneer in the climate issue, a country that presents innovative solutions that can be scaled up on a global level and can therefore make a real difference. Enviro’s technology for recycling end-of-life tires and thus contributing to reducing carbon dioxide emissions has a natural connection to the transport sector. Our ambition is to play an important role in the work to achieve the climate goals, both nationally and internationally,” says Thomas Sörensson, CEO of Enviro.
Sweden’s climate goals state that the country should have no net emissions of greenhouse gases by 2045, and then achieve negative emissions. One interim target is to reduce emissions from domestic transport, excluding domestic flights, by at least 70 percent by 2030 compared to 2010.
There are now concerns that the Swedish climate target for the transport sector by 2030 will be removed, as the Swedish Prime Minister has previously said that the targets may be reviewed. The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency and the Swedish Energy Agency have shown that the 2030 target could be achieved with the climate policy on which there was previously broad agreement.
Together with 213 other companies, Enviro presents five points on why near-term targets and plans are decisive for Sweden to achieve both interim targets and the long-term climate target of zero net emissions by 2045.
